There are some beautiful walks and National Parks near the Townhouse. A crazy amount of hiking and biking trails. There are also many e-bike outfitters around town. Or, bring your own bikes as we have storage behind each house.
There is a National Park just around the bend with beautiful views of a huge meadow and a road that leads to Bolivar Heights. You can also take a trail that leads down to the Potomac River. There are many hikes from Bolivar Heights. Virginius Island has many hikes. The two most popular hikes, other than the AT are Maryland Heights and Loudon Heights. Maryland Heights is a hike across the river from Harpers Ferry up to Maryland Heights, a good 5-6 mile hike, depending on the route you take. You can see three states from here, Maryland, WV, and Virginia. Fantastic Views, especially at sunset, but you better hurry down or bring a flashlight. Loudoun Heights is a 6.6-mile hike. Less crowded than the other outstanding overlook (Maryland Heights), but the views are just as good. The Appalachian Trail – AT trail. Harpers Ferry is considered the mid-point of the AT trail. It runs near Virginius Island. The C&O Canal towpath is great for hiking or biking. Across the river from Harpers Ferry, it’s a nice easy bike ride running along the river. Some folks bike from DC all the way to Pittsburg PA. If you are really adventurous, you can hike from the Townhouse to Bolivar Heights, down to the Potomac River, and then along deer trails or a bike path that leads all the way to Harpers Ferry.
